After studying music at Leicester and Reading universities (B.A. (Hons) and M.Mus), I’ve been teaching music since the 1990s. Recently I’ve started offering tuition online. You’ll find me approachable and patient, and I’m always keen to work with pupils to find their best ‘way in’ to the music. People learn in different ways, and I’m here to help you to find the way that’s right for you. Many people who learn an instrument do so just because they want to get some pleasure out of making music and sharing it with others. My aim is to help you to do that to the best of your ability. Beginners and re-starters are always very welcome! I’m enthusiastic about music in a wide range of styles from Renaissance to contemporary, including jazz.
In 2019 I started a website, animatedpiano.com, which aims to support and inspire anybody who learns the piano. Some of my compositions and arrangements are available as free downloads from animatedpiano.com.
More recently I’ve started to make some material available for purchase on Sheet Music Plus, and I’m currently working on some editions of easy classical pieces which will be free to download from imslp.org and animatedpiano.com . See the ‘My music’ and ‘Easy piano classics’ pages of this website for some examples.
As a member of the ISM’s Registered Private Teacher scheme, I have been checked by DBS to Enhanced level.
If you’re thinking about taking lessons, I’ve tried to cover a lot of your questions on the ‘Your questions answered’ page.
